Atletico Ends Season in Grand Style



 Two goals in either halves courtesy Antione Griezmann as well as an 89th minute finish from Gabi ensured that Atletico Madrid ended the 2017/2018 season with a silverware as they defeated Marseille in the Europa League final at Lyon. It was a short trip to Lyon for Marseille who were looking to win the tournament they have never won before having lost in two finals as opposed to Atletico who won the tournament in 2010 and 2012.

Marseille lost its versatile captain, Dimitri Payet to a 32nd minute hamstring injury, with the expected announcement of France’s World Cup squad on his mind, the artful midfielder was in tears as he left the pitch. Following disciplinary actions from UEFA, Diego Simeone watched from the stands as his team defeated Marseille 3-0 and it secured a second European trophy for the Argentine having won with Atleti in 2012. It was also a memorable night for Atleti legend, Fernando Torres as the victory gave him a special send-off in Atleti colours.
